A local story reaching young readers

Judy's publishing journey was featured by the Western Advocate following the release of Who Has the Biggest Mouth?. The article celebrated the Bathurst author's first children's book and the inspiration that began with a visit to the zoo.

Retired teacher, Judy Cannon, says she is ‘delighted’ with the publication of her first children’s book.

Based on a visit to a zoo, the story considers the characteristics of various animals. The question arises – who has the biggest mouth?

With each turn of the page, the reader is closer to the answer.

The book has been published by the competent team at Little Steps Publishing, of Chippendale, NSW.

The illustrations are what really makes the book appealing. They are original illustrations, designed and presented by talented artist Verena Heirich, of Campbelltown. Verena has been a finalist in numerous art competitions and is currently part of the ‘MacArthur and Beyond’ exhibition at Campbelltown Arts Centre.

Each book illustration is eye-catching and contains some whimsical detail that encourages closer observation. ‘I cannot praise Verena enough, for both her talent and her dedication to her work,’ commented Judy.

‘The finished product is an absolute delight,’ said Judy. ‘While it did take quite some time and careful planning, a supportive team behind you makes all the difference.

It is also very pleasing to see the reaction of the younger child as they follow the story.’
